D-Link launches NetDefend UTM Firewall device for SMEs - DFL-160 provides comprehensive defense against virus attacks, unauthorized intrusions and harmful content -

South East Asia

D-Link International Pte Ltd, one of the worlds biggest suppliers of networking products has introduced the new DFL-160 NetDefend SOHO Unified Threat Management (UTM) Firewall device which provides a comprehensive defence against virus attacks, unauthorized intrusions, and harmful content. The latest member to D-Links NetDefend family of network security devices, the DFL-160 address the demanding security needs of small offices and businesses by packing in high-performance, full-featured security and firewall functions, such as Anti-Virus (AV) Protection, Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) and Web Content Filter (WCF) into a single and compact device that can fit easily into any existing network.

"SMEs and SOHOs are being increasingly exposed to a wide variety of menaces including viruses and worms through the proliferation of P2P and instant messaging, leakage of confidential information, corporate and regulatory compliance violations, and even identity theft," said Mr Desmond Toh, Marketing Director, D-Link International Pte Ltd. "Targeted specifically at SMEs and SOHOs to help them manage, monitor and maintain a healthy network, the DFL-160 tackles these threats and allow the companies to go about their business without a worry."

Unified Threat Management for worry-free security protection

Featuring the reliable Unified Threat Management (UTM) for safe and worry-free protection against a diverse assortment of Internet threats, the DFL-160 maintains separate databases for Intrusion Prevention, Anti-Virus and Web Content Filtering. By subscribing to D-Link's NetDefend SOHO UTM subscription service, users can keep the databases and security information consistent, accurate and up-to-date with the latest security threats.

Security updates from Kaspersky Labs partnership

Through D-Link's partnership with Kaspersky Labs, a security software company that provides online protection against IT security threats, including viruses, spyware, crimeware, hackers, phishing and spam, users of the DFL-160 can receive regular security updates, providing the device with prompt and reliable anti-virus signatures. This enables viruses and malware to be effectively blocked before they reach workstations on the network.

Intrusion Detection and Prevention

The DFL-160 features an Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) that includes security information from a global sensor-grid, while exploiting the data for zero-day attack prevention. Zero-day attacks target application vulnerabilities that are unknown to the application's creators and for which no patch yet exists. By exploiting these vulnerabilities, attackers can enter a network to gain complete control of a victim's computer.
Taking advantage of the D-Link Auto-Signature Sensor System, the DFL-160 delivers high quality IPS signatures by constantly creating and optimizing NetDefend SOHO signatures. Without overloading existing security appliances, these signatures ensure a high ratio of detection accuracy and the lowest ratio of false positives.

Gigabit interface for maximum security performance

With a Gigabit Ethernet interface that ensures high-speed performance and interoperability with existing network hardware, the DFL-160 can carry out IPS and Anti-Virus scanning functions simultaneously without degrading security performance. The firewall is able to perform with a much higher throughput than comparable antivirus-capable UTM firewalls.

Dynamic Web Content Filtering

Featuring Web Content Filtering, administrators can monitor, manage, and control the material that enters the network. The DFL-160 makes use of multiple global index servers with millions of URLs and real-time information, enabling administrators to control access to specified websites using policies and explicit black/white lists.
